How does La Rivière stay in place, and how do I put it on?

La Rivière was designed to be placed easily, with or without the help of a stylist. Each end is finished with a sterling silver jump ring that can be anchored using a bobby pin, a small comb, an elastic, or even a strand of hair, depending on the style. Once secured, it stays comfortably in place and can be removed just as easily.

Will it damage my hair?

La Rivière is designed to rest gently within the hair. Because it is secured using removable pins, combs, or elastics rather than by pulling on the filament itself, it can be lifted out carefully at the end of the day without placing unnecessary stress on the hair.

Which hairstyles does it work on?

La Rivière was created for Afro-heritage hair and moves beautifully across afros, cornrows, braids, locs, curls, and curly or straight wigs and weaves. Because it is designed to travel through the hair, this first piece is not the ideal fit for very short or closely shaved styles. Those styles call for a different construction; one we may explore in time.

Can I wear it more than once and in more than one way?

Always. La Rivière was made to be worn again and again, across different hairstyles, settings, and occasions, from an ordinary Tuesday to your wedding day. It was never intended to belong to a single moment. Its versatility is part of the design.

How do I care for it?

Treat La Rivière with the care you would give any fine, handcrafted piece. When you are not wearing it, return it to its hook inside the original packaging so the filament remains smooth and free from tangles. With thoughtful care, your piece can be worn and reimagined for years to come.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Each La Rivière is made to order by hand, so please allow 3-4 weeks for your piece to be crafted before it ships. Once your order is on its way, you will receive tracking information by email.

Where do you ship, and how much does it cost?

We currently ship from Toronto across Canada and the United States. All orders are tracked, and shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on destination. For orders placed from the United States, any customs duties, taxes, or import fees are the responsibility of the customer.

Do you ship outside Canada and the United States?

While our online checkout currently serves Canada and the United States, we would be delighted to assist clients elsewhere. Please write to the studio at studio@rekiaandjosephine.com with your destination, and we will confirm whether shipping can be arranged and provide a personalized quote.

What if my piece arrives damaged or needs a repair?

Because every La Rivière is handmade to order, we are unable to accept returns or exchanges for a change of mind. If your piece arrives damaged or with a manufacturing defect, please reach out within 7 days of delivery, and we will make it right. Repairs are available whenever possible. Manufacturing issues will be addressed by us, while accidental damage will be assessed individually.
